Artis Gilmore is a former professionalbasketball player in the American Basketball Association (ABA) andNational Basketball Association(NBA). Nicknamed "The A-Train" for his unprententious but dominatingstyle of play, the durable 7 ft 2 in (2.18 m) Gilmore once played in670 consecutive games. Despite an ABA career in which he averaged 22.3points and 17.1rebounds per game, NBA career averages of 17.1 points and 10.1 reboundsper game. In addition to being pro basketball's all-time most successful fieldgoal percentage shooter, Gilmore ranks among the top 25 all-time pointscorers, as well as in the top ten in rebounds, blocked shots, gamesand minutes played.
